HISP is a secure, web-based messaging system for exchanging patient health information among healthcare providers, labs, and other entities. It ensures the regular transmission and receipt of Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) efficiently.

Digital HIE's Direct Secure Messaging (Direct exchange) utilizes the Direct Standard™, a technical standard for exchanging health information between healthcare entities in a trusted network. A trust framework enhances interoperability by establishing shared operating rules between entities.

HISP

A standards-based, secure, point-to-point, web-based messaging system for exchanging patient health information between healthcare providers, labs, and other entities that regularly transmit and/or receive PHI/PII.

Registration Authority

An authority trusted by the Digital HIE HISP that works with Digital HIE's trusted CA to collect and verify certificate subject information, and to approve or reject subscriber certificate management transactions including renewal, re-key, and revocation.

Domain Name

A fully qualified domain name that identifies the organization that assigns health endpoint names and is dedicated solely to health information exchange. Example: direct.digitalhie.com.
